The ORCA

In two hundred and ten city-states there are small, isolated enclaves of artists, poets, philosophers, teachers, and healers, guarded and assisted by a band of skilled, dedicated warriors.

From these enclaves come what good there is in society.

The teachers spread their talents, everything from woodworking to horse training, the artists and poets give the people something to aspire to, the philosophers spread the asking of questions and the ideals that lead to a better world, and the healers preserve the people from the pains and terrors of the world as it is.

Throughout Rhand, the gentle, the noble, and the wise help those less fortunate, promoting life and hope wherever they can reach.

Walking with them to ensure their safety are proud warriors, people trained from youth with sword and spear, raised to be strong and just.

Together, the wise and the warriors, they are the Orca.

They are bound together by more than tradition and coincidence, for without the warriors the wise would have none to teach, and without the wise the warriors would have nothing, only a war without reason or heart or hope.

It is with the warriors that we will spend most of our time, for their's is the most immediately critical task;

the preservation of the remnants of civilization.

These people have been trained from childhood to fight, and to follow a simple code:

to protect the weak, avenge the wronged, and serve the righteous.

Over the generations the military arm of the Orca has evolved into a military elite.

Born to war and given the finest training, an Orca member is a warrior bred to live life to the fullest.

These are the people who are the characters, men and women seeking adventure in Rhand.

Characters begin their careers in the Orca as trainees just out of school.

As they demonstrate skill and courage they will advance through the ranks, forged by years of experience into one worthy of command.

This chapter details life in the Orca and the world of Rhand, complete with the conflicts, goals, missions, and quests which make up a character's life.
