Characteristics and Skill Levels have been designed, but exactly how do they affect your chances of leaping the chasm or finding out where the princess is held captive?
Accomplishing any exploit, from the mundane to the incredible, is governed by the Action/Reaction Table.
The Action/Reaction table combines the ability of the character with luck to give odds of success for hundreds of feats.
These feats are listed in the tables of section 3.3 under the skill which increases the chance of successfully doing the deed.
Learning these skills is an important facet of life in the Orca.
The expertise in a skill is rated by a Skill Level of 0 to 20.
This matches ability in the real world as given on the following table.
Skill Level | Rating |
---|---|
1 | Novice |
4 | Amateur |
6 | Intermediate |
7 | Journeyman |
8 | Professional |
10 | Expert in Field |
12 | Master |
15 | World Class |
The Skill Level greatly affects the chances of success at any endeavor.
For example, a seventh level, or Journeyman, has a seven times better chance of success than a Novice.
The Orca fully recognizes the advantages in gaining skills, so both General and Specialist training are provided throughout a character's career.
